Jeanne Groenewald raises free range chickens for Woolworths. She is committed to caring for the welfare of animals. This is her story.
Jeanne Groenewald lives on a farm in Elgin in the Western Cape, a place she calls her “haven”. Here she provides the best possible environment she can for the animals she raises.
Jeanne started raising free-range chickens in her backyard to ensure that her family only ate chickens raised according to strict animal welfare principles – the same principles she applies today: treating animals with respect and ensuring they have space to roam freely and behave normally, with access to good food, fresh water, sunshine and shelter.
With rigorous quality standards in place, Jeanne’s Elgin Free Range Chickens business has become the largest independent free-range chicken farm in South Africa.
Jeanne supplies Woolworths with certified free-range chicken that is free from animal by-products, antibiotics and growth promoters.
Like Jeanne, Woolworths cares about animal welfare and is pleased to be able to offer customers free-range chicken, lamb and beef that are produced according to such strict standards by people who really care about their animals.
